Conveyor Belt Lacing Maintenance

November 3, 2025

When it comes to keeping your operation running smoothly, even the smallest components can make a big difference. In this week’s Maintenance Monday episode, Shane from Hanlon Ag Centre walks through one of those often-overlooked details — conveyor belt lacing maintenance.

Why Conveyor Belt Lacing Maintenance Matters

Your conveyor belt is a crucial part of moving material efficiently, especially during busy harvest and handling seasons. But over time, the lacing — the section that connects the ends of the belt — can wear down, loosen, or break. When that happens, it can cause belt failures, unexpected downtime, and costly delays in the field.

By regularly inspecting and repairing the lacing, you can catch small issues before they become major problems. A few minutes spent checking your conveyor in the shop can save you hours of frustration when you’re out working.

What to Look For During Inspections

  • Check for broken or bent lacing hooks or clips.
  • Look for uneven wear along the belt edges.
  • Inspect for loose fasteners or gaps in the splice.
  • Watch for signs of belt fraying near the connection points.

Replacing damaged lacing right away helps ensure a smooth, reliable operation. It also extends the life of your conveyor belt and reduces the chance of an unexpected breakdown when you’re relying on it most.

Shane’s Pro Tip

In the video, Shane recommends adding lacing inspection to your regular maintenance checklist. A quick look at your conveyor belt connections can make all the difference.

It’s one of those simple steps that helps you stay ahead of maintenance and keeps your operation productive all season long.
